Odor lives below the carpet
When a pet has an accident, liquid passes through the carpet face into the backing, the pad, and sometimes the subfloor. Surface cleaning removes the visible stain and leaves the source untouched, which is why the smell returns on the first humid day.
Why sprays and powders fail
Deodorizing sprays mask odor with fragrance. Powders absorb some surface moisture. Neither reaches bacteria breaking down proteins in the pad, and once the fragrance fades the odor is exactly where it was.
Finding it before treating it
Old accidents are often invisible. We locate affected areas before treating so the treatment goes where it is actually needed rather than across the whole room on a guess.
When the pad has to go
Some contamination is beyond what any topical treatment reaches — repeated accidents in one spot, or urine that has soaked into subfloor. In those cases the honest answer is pad replacement and subfloor sealing, and we will tell you that instead of selling you a treatment that will not hold.
What pet odor treatment costs
This is priced by the number of affected areas and by how deep the contamination goes, not by room count. One accident spot treated soon after it happened is a small job. Years of repeated accidents in the same corner is a different one.
Where urine has soaked into the pad, pad replacement in that section is quoted on top of the treatment. Where it has reached the subfloor, sealing the subfloor is the only thing that actually stops the odor returning. We locate the affected areas before quoting so you're not paying to treat carpet that's fine.
We quote pet stain & odor removal the same way everywhere in the county, whether the job is in Hicksville, Hewlett or Long Beach. If a nearby service is a better fit for what you are describing, we will say so — carpet cleaning is the one people most often turn out to need instead.
Why most pet odour treatments fail
They treat the surface. The stain you can see is the smallest part of what's there — the liquid spread outward and downward through the backing into the pad, and often across an area several times larger than the visible mark. Cleaning the carpet face removes the evidence and leaves the source completely untouched.
Masking makes it worse over time. Fragranced deodorisers and carpet powders cover the smell for a few days, and each application adds residue while the bacteria underneath keep working. Households often go through this cycle for months before calling someone, by which point the contamination has had far longer to reach the subfloor than it needed to.
Preventing the next one
Blot fresh accidents immediately with paper towel and plain water, and press hard enough to lift liquid rather than dabbing at the surface. The amount you remove in the first ten minutes has more effect on the eventual outcome than anything applied afterward.
Skip ammonia-based cleaners entirely. Ammonia is a component of urine, so cleaning with it leaves behind a scent that reads to a dog or cat as a marked spot and actively invites a repeat in the same place. Enzyme-based products are the correct choice for household use between professional visits.
What happens on the day
Four steps, and you know the price before step three.
Locate the contamination
Old accidents are usually invisible. We find the affected areas so treatment goes where it's needed, not across the whole room.
Treat at the source
Product is applied to reach the backing and pad, where the bacteria causing the odor actually live.
Extract thoroughly
Contaminated solution comes back out rather than being pushed further down.
Reassess
We check the treated areas before leaving, and tell you plainly if the pad or subfloor needs to come up.

Pet Stain & Odor Removal questions
Can you get rid of the smell completely?
Often yes. Where saturation has reached the subfloor, cleaning alone won't do it and we'll say so.
Is the treatment safe around pets?
Yes. We use pet-safe solutions and ask that animals stay off the area until it's dry.
Will my dog re-mark the same spot?
Less likely once the source odor is gone — that scent is what draws them back.
Why does the smell come back in summer?
Humidity reactivates it. The bacteria breaking down proteins in the pad become more active in warm damp air, which is why an odor you thought was gone returns on the first humid day.
Will my carpet look the same afterward?
Usually. But urine can permanently alter carpet dye, and where that has happened the stain may lighten without disappearing. We'll tell you what to expect before we start.
